ANTI-GAY LAW: Uganda Community In Distress Over Harsh Anti-Gay Law

The recent enactment of stringent anti-gay legislation in Uganda has caused a significant number of LGBTQ+ individuals to flee the country.

This law, recognized as one of the world’s most severe against homosexual relationships, prescribes extreme punishments, including life sentences.

Since its implementation last year, it has instilled a pervasive climate of fear and prompted many to leave in search of more accepting environments, such as Kenya.

The plight of the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda isn’t new; discrimination was prevalent even prior to this law.

For example, Sulah Maweije escaped from Uganda eight years ago to avoid persecution from his community and family. He now resides in Kenya and operates a haven for others facing similar threats.
