Association Calls For State Of Disaster Over Spread Of Wildfire Across Province

The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association has sounded the alarm, urging the declaration of a State of Disaster as wildfires continue to spread across the province. With a 75% probability of extreme fire events predicted in the next 7-10 days, the situation is expected to worsen.

Farm owners in Rhenosterfontein, Rustenburg, are battling to contain the raging fires, which have already caused extensive damage to property and arable land since Saturday.

The devastating impact is evident, with a child seriously burnt, eight houses and a church destroyed in Buffelspoort, Magaliesberg.

The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association’s Chairperson, Erick Stoch, has emphasized the need for urgent action, warning that the situation will only worsen without immediate intervention.

As the province grapples with this disaster, the call for a State of Disaster declaration grows louder, seeking to mobilize resources and support to combat the raging wildfires.
