The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association has sounded the alarm, urging the declaration of a State of Disaster as wildfires continue to spread across the province. With a 75% probability of extreme fire events predicted in the next 7-10 days, the situation is expected to worsen.

Farm owners in Rhenosterfontein, Rustenburg, are battling to contain the raging fires, which have already caused extensive damage to property and arable land since Saturday.

The devastating impact is evident, with a child seriously burnt, eight houses and a church destroyed in Buffelspoort, Magaliesberg.
