CEDEAO Moves To Foster Food Security, Poverty Reduction, Holds Festival

In a bid to address the pressing issues of food insecurity and poverty in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States (CEDEAO) is set to host a festival that promises to bring together stakeholders and key players in the region.

Scheduled to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from October 6 to 11, 2024, the festival is designed to promote food security, poverty alleviation, and zero tolerance for hunger across the 16 member states of CEDEAO.

According to Ambassador Felix Ihonre, Director-General of CEDEAO, the festival will provide a platform for experts to share knowledge and solutions to the security challenges that hinder farming and agricultural production in the region.

Nigeria, as the host country, is expected to benefit economically from the festival, with opportunities for local businesses to thrive.

The festival will also feature a range of activities, including a golf tournament, train carnival, and a Miss CEDEAO beauty pageant.

The theme of the festival, “Celebrating African Cultural Heritage for Peace and Development,” highlights the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration in driving progress in the region.

By bringing together key stakeholders and promoting cultural understanding, the CEDEAO festival aims to lay the groundwork for a more food-secure and prosperous West Africa.
