As the powerful Super Typhoon Yagi barrels towards southern China, the region is holding its breath, bracing for the worst. With winds reaching a staggering 209 km/h (130 mph), the storm’s arrival is expected to bring widespread destruction and chaos.
“Hainan upgraded its emergency response to Yagi to the highest level at 11:30 am Thursday,” according to the provincial disaster management authority, as quoted by China’s Xinhua news agency.
This move underscores the gravity of the situation, as authorities scramble to prepare for the storm’s landfall.

In Hainan’s capital, Haikou, work, school, and local transport services have been suspended from Thursday noon, leaving residents to batten down the hatches and await the storm’s arrival.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, the weather observatory has issued the city’s third-highest typhoon warning, limiting public transport across the finance hub.
The typhoon’s impact is already being felt, with at least 13 deaths reported in the Philippines due to floods and landslides triggered by Yagi earlier in the week.
As the storm tracks west across the South China Sea, Vietnam is also bracing for impact, with a storm warning issued and over 2,700 military personnel mobilized for storm response.
As the people of southern China prepare for the worst, one thing is clear: Super Typhoon Yagi is a force to be reckoned with, and its fury will not be easily forgotten.
