In a welcome turn of events, doctors in Anambra State have called off their indefinite strike action, which was prompted by the kidnapping of their colleague, Dr. Stephen Ezeh.
The strike was suspended after Ezeh’s release, and clinical services are set to resume today.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra Branch announced the suspension of the strike in a statement signed by Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, the Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
The association expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra for their understanding and solidarity during the challenging period.

However, the NMA also used the opportunity to urge Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security in the state, citing the growing insecurity and kidnappings as major concerns that are crippling the state’s economy and healthcare delivery.
The doctors called for a collaborative effort from the general public, security agencies, professional bodies, and corporate entities to achieve a peaceful, secure, and healthy Anambra.
The strike’s suspension brings relief to patients and healthcare seekers in Anambra, but the underlying issues of insecurity and kidnappings remain a pressing concern that requires immediate attention from the authorities.
