Dozens of people died as Diphtheria epidemic broke out in Kano

Dozens of people died when an epidemic identified as diphtheria hit the ancient city of Kano.

Health Commissioner Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa and other rapid response teams are currently holding an emergency meeting at the Emergency Operations Center, EOC located at Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital during the outbreak.

Leaked records from the state health department documented 58 suspected cases of the outbreak, 25 of whom have died, most of them children, and six were treated in isolation centers from Friday, January13, 2023.

African Future Leadership Magazine noted that the outbreak was first reported in the local government area of Ungogo state, where 13 people were reported dead last week.
