Ecobank Group Unveils 2024 Fintech Challenge With A $50,000 Grand Prize

Ecobank Group, a leading financial institution in Africa, is excited to announce the launch of its 7th annual Fintech Challenge. This prestigious competition invites fintech startups at both early-stage and mature levels to partner with Ecobank for a chance to win a hefty grand prize of $50,000. Moreover, it offers an unparalleled opportunity for fintech innovators to scale their solutions across Ecobank’s vast network, which spans 35 African countries.

The fintech sector in Africa, though burgeoning with potential, faces significant hurdles such as scalability, regulatory complexity, and funding. The Ecobank Fintech Challenge aims to address these issues by offering fintech entrepreneurs not only monetary rewards but also valuable insights into Ecobank’s operational ecosystems and assistance with scaling solutions across the continent and even in France.

Jeremy Awori, the Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank Group, emphasized the vital role of partnerships with fintechs in advancing financial inclusion across Africa. He reiterated that supporting fintech startups is integral to Ecobank’s Growth, Transformation, and Returns strategy. “We have elevated this new edition of the Ecobank Fintech Challenge to further empower fintech entrepreneurs with a high-quality platform that showcases innovative solutions, facilitating expansive growth and outreach across 35 markets in Africa,” he stated.

The challenge recorded an impressive turnout last year, with 1,490 entries showcasing exceptional innovations. Finalists making it to the Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony in October 2024 will have the chance to join the esteemed Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program. Besides a $50,000 prize for the winning startup, Ecobank Fintech Fellows will enjoy numerous collaborative opportunities with Ecobank and its partners, including:

  • Multinational product rollout possibilities, offering potential product launches within Ecobank’s widespread Pan-African network.
  • Becoming Pan-African service partners within Ecobank’s ecosystem.
  • Exclusive access to Ecobank’s Pan-African Banking Sandbox for API testing and product development tailored for the Pan-African market.
  • Priority venture capital networking opportunities for funding.

Since its inception, the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship has welcomed 60 innovative startups into its fold.

Crafted in partnership with the international advisory firm Konfidants, and supported by various partners, the Ecobank Fintech Challenge stands as a beacon for fintech innovation.

Fintechs and developers from across Africa and worldwide, with a focus on African solutions, are encouraged to apply for the 7th edition of the Ecobank Fintech Challenge, now open for applications.
