Federal Govt, ASUU Reach Peaceful Resolution

The recent closed-door meeting between the Nigerian government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) concluded with a mutually agreed-upon resolution to address all contentious issues in a harmonious manner. Both parties have also pledged to establish a communication process to prevent any potential industrial actions by the union.

The meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, commencing at approximately 4:30 p.m. and lasting for over two hours. Key figures present included the Education Ministers, Prof. Tahir Mamman and Dr. Yusuf Sununu, alongside other senior officials from the federal government’s ministry team.

Following the meeting, ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, leading the union’s delegation, briefed the press on the commencement of negotiation processes and expressed optimism that the government would honor the agreed-upon terms. In response to the union’s two-week deadline, Osodeke mentioned plans to update their members on the specifics discussed during the meeting.
