Fire Destroys Auto Parts Shops in Idumota, Lagos; No Casualties

A devastating fire destroyed property worth millions of naira at Idumota, Lagos, after igniting late Friday night. The blaze engulfed multiple buildings, which housed auto parts shops, causing widespread damage.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 10:20 p.m. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s permanent secretary, said emergency teams responded swiftly after receiving distress calls.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was clear that several shops dealing in car spare parts were fully engulfed by fire,” Oke-Osanyintolu said. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation.”

Despite the scale of the fire, there were no reported casualties or injuries. However, the damage to property and goods is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of naira.

LASEMA’s teams, including the Shark Response Team and the Fire Unit, worked alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Federal Fire Service to contain the blaze. Their coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted the ongoing recovery operation, saying, “The fire is now under control, and efforts to dampen the remaining pockets of fire are ongoing.” He also assured the public that valuable items from the affected shops are being salvaged.

The incident has left many in the area anxious, as Idumota is a hub for auto parts sales in Lagos. While investigations continue, authorities have urged businesses and residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to prevent further incidents.
