Funso Doherty Defects From ADC To PDP

In a stunning political maneuver, Funso Doherty, a prominent Lagos politician and former governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This move is seen as a strategic play to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state.

Doherty, who contested for the governorship of Lagos state under the ADC platform in the 2023 gubernatorial election, revealed his decision to join the PDP in a statement yesterday.

He attached his resignation letter from the ADC, dated July 22, 2024, to the statement.

According to Doherty, his decision to defect to the PDP was motivated by his desire to unseat the APC and bring about change to the lives of Lagosians.

He stated, “After extensive consultations, I have resigned from the ADC and joined the PDP.

With humility and an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, I look forward to working collectively to build the Lagos of our dreams.”

Doherty’s defection is seen as a significant boost to the PDP’s chances in Lagos state, where the APC has held sway since 1999.

His move is expected to inject fresh momentum into the PDP’s campaign to take control of the state.
