Google’s Hustle Academy Set to Empower SMBs with AI Education

Google has announced an opening of applications for its 2024 Hustle Academy cohort, aiming to supercharge the growth of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Sub-Saharan Africa with a groundbreaking update: “the inclusion of business-oriented AI training in its program.”

Acknowledging the critical role of SMBs in Africa’s economy, the academy looks to bridge the considerable funding and skills gap faced by these businesses. With the challenge of securing necessary funds being a widespread hurdle, the IFC notes an annual unmet funding need of $5.2 trillion among formal SMBs in developing countries.

Google’s Hustle Academy responds with valuable business education, mentorship, and networking avenues.

In the program’s history, over 10,000 businesses have reaped benefits such as improved success in acquiring external funding and contributing to job creation.

Kristy Grant, Head of B2B Marketing in SSA for Google, highlights the transformative potential of AI for African SMBs, from fostering innovation to streamlining operations.
