Gunmen Launch Deadly Attack On Police Checkpoint In Anambra, Killing One Officer

In a brazen and tragic incident, gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Nnobi, Anambra State, killing one police officer and leaving a trail of destruction. The attack, which occurred on Friday, is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen, who had been lodging in a nearby house, broke through a wall and forced residents to open the gate, allowing them to drive in their cars. They then collected the residents’ handsets and warned them not to raise the alarm.

The police officer killed in the attack was identified as the driver of one of the police vehicles.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident and stated that the situation is under control, with an ongoing operation in the area.

This attack comes less than three weeks after a similar incident in Nnewi, where gunmen attacked a police checkpoint, killing one officer and using an explosive device.

The recurring attacks on security personnel in the region have raised concerns about the safety and security of law enforcement officers.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered an ongoing operation in the area to address the situation.

Further details are expected to be communicated as the investigation unfolds.
