IBADAN: New Olubadan Set for Coronation Following Funeral of Oba Balogun on June 1

The Oyo State Government has officially scheduled June 1, 2024, for the formal state funeral of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, the late Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun. This event will pave the way for the crowning of the next Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

It has been reported that Oba Balogun passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81, after a two-year reign which left the throne vacant.

The state burial for the esteemed Oba Balogun is set to be held at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, located in Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo.

Following the solemn observances for the late Oba Balogun, an official coronation date is expected to be announced, marking a new chapter for the Ibadan monarchy.

Oba Olakulehin, having been selected by the Ibadan kingmakers, is set for ascension as the 43rd Olubadan, after the formal submission of his nomination to Governor Seyi Makinde via the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The new and opulent Olubadan Palace, based in Oke Aremo within Ibadan North Local Government Area, is primed to be showcased as part of the coronation events.

The coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin is anticipated to be a grand and dignified event, expected to host a diverse array of dignitaries, further cementing the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
