IGP Urged To Ensure Safety Protesters

As the countdown begins for the highly anticipated “End Bad Governance” protest, slated for August 1-10, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has issued a clarion call to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to guarantee the safety and security of protesters.

With the demonstration gaining momentum on social media, the TUC is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the voices of angry youths are heard without compromising their well-being.

TUC President Festus Osifo emphasized that the Police Act and the constitution unequivocally mandate the police to provide adequate security for demonstrators.

He stressed that “it is imperative that we have sufficient protection to prevent the protest from being hijacked by criminals and to prevent any degeneration into chaos.”

Osifo passionately appealed to the IGP, saying, “We must not allow a situation where the protest is compromised by violence.

We implore the Inspector General of Police and the entire security agencies to take all necessary measures to provide a secure environment for protesters, ensuring that their voices are heard without fear of intimidation or harm.”

The TUC’s plea comes amidst government officials’ attempts to discredit the protest as politically motivated.

However, the TUC remains resolute in its commitment to protecting protesters’ rights and ensuring their safety.

With tensions running high, the IGP’s response will be crucial in determining the outcome of the demonstration.
