Islamic State claims to have attacked eastern DR Congo

Islamic State on Monday claimed responsibility for an attack in eastern DR Congo that killed at least 23 civilians.

The Jihadist group said on the Telegram messaging app that IS forces attacked Makugwe village overnight Sunday in the Beni region of North Kivu province and burned several houses.

Earlier on Monday, Congolese officials accused the suspects of being members of the Allied Democratic Forces fighters, which the Islamic State group claims as its Central African ally.
