In a significant development, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has established the cut-off marks for admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions in 2024.
The announcement was made by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2024 Policy meeting in Abuja, which was attended by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, and other stakeholders.
According to Professor Oloyede, “The cut-off mark for university admissions has been set at 140, while the minimum cut-off point for polytechnics and colleges of education is 100.” This declaration has sent a wave of excitement and anticipation among prospective students and education enthusiasts.
It is important to note that individual institutions can set higher cut-off marks, but not lower than the announced minimums.
Additionally, meeting the minimum score does not guarantee admission, as other factors such as the institution’s admission quota and the number of applicants will also be taken into consideration.

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “This new policy is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that our tertiary institutions maintain high standards and produce graduates who are equipped to excel in their respective fields.”
Furthermore, Professor Oloyede highlighted the importance of adhering to the set cut-off marks, saying, “Institutions that fail to comply with the set cut-off marks will be sanctioned accordingly.”
This stern warning underscores JAMB’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the admission process.
