Jigawa Govt. Launches Free Medical Care Programmes For HBP, Diabetes, Sickle Cell Patients

In a groundbreaking move, the Jigawa State Government has announced that patients suffering from hypertension, diabetes, and sickle cell disease will receive free healthcare services across all government-owned hospitals in the state.

This development was revealed by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, in a statement issued in Dutse, the state capital, today.

The State Executive Council, during its meeting yesterday, approved the expansion of the Free Maternal Neonatal and Child Healthcare program to include patients with these chronic conditions.

This initiative aims to provide comprehensive and accessible healthcare services to vulnerable populations across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

Furthermore, the council approved the disbursement of N179.2 million as Direct Facility Financing to accredited Primary Healthcare Centers, enhancing their capacity to deliver quality healthcare services.

An additional 17 Primary Healthcare Centers were also approved for accreditation across the 281 political wards of the state.

In another significant development, the council approved N69.1 million for the payment of monthly stipends to 79 Midwives and Community Influencers, Promoters, and Services (CHIPS Agents).

A work plan for the implementation of the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services Project was also endorsed, supported by a N1.2 billion grant from the World Bank for the revitalization of 161 Primary Healthcare Centres in the state.
