The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Moshood Jimoh as the new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, a move that could reshape security in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
Jimoh, a seasoned law enforcement officer with 24 years of experience, takes over at a time when Lagos faces increasing security threats, from organized crime to cyber fraud. His appointment was announced on Monday by Ikechukwu Ani, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations.
A Track Record in Law Enforcement
Jimoh began his policing career in 2000 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He has since served in strategic roles, including as Force Public Relations Officer from 2017 to 2019 and Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports, where he led security operations in Nigeria’s busiest maritime zones.

“He brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement, crisis management, and public relations,” said a senior police official who requested anonymity. “His expertise in counterterrorism and community policing will be crucial for Lagos.”
Internationally Trained, Locally Experienced
A native of Kwara State, Jimoh has trained extensively in Nigeria, the U.S., China, and South Korea. He attended the Weapons of Mass Destruction Countermeasure First Responder Program in the U.S., maritime security courses in China, and an anti-hijacking tactics program in South Korea.
His credentials extend beyond enforcement. He was awarded the Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, underscoring his role in improving police-community relations.
What This Means for Lagos
With Lagos battling a surge in crime, expectations are high for Jimoh to implement reforms, strengthen intelligence-led policing, and rebuild public trust. Analysts believe his experience in both operational security and strategic communication will be key.
“Lagos needs a Commissioner who understands both enforcement and engagement,” said a security expert. “Jimoh fits that profile.”
