Liberia to Celebrate National Unification Day as President Boakai Declares Public Holiday

His Excellency Mr. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., the President of Liberia, has officially proclaimed Tuesday, May 14, 2024, as National Unification Day, which will be recognized as a national holiday across the nation.

This announcement follows an act passed by the Legislature in 1960, endorsing the annual celebration of National Unification Day in acknowledgment of the advantages derived from the country’s Unification and Integration Policy.

The Proclamation reflects on the considerable advancements in economic, educational, communications, and social sectors since the inception of this policy as part of Liberia’s National Development Plan.

It commemorates how this policy has been integrated into Liberia’s national structure, especially visible in the diverse representation across all branches of government, which fosters peace and unity.

The presidential statement underlines the importance of unity and peace among all Liberians, especially in light of the detrimental effects of past civil conflicts.

It serves as a call to action to uphold the values of justice, equality, and equal opportunities enshrined in the Unification Act.

In line with these principles, the Liberian government remains committed to uniting its people as one entity, unimpeded by differences in tribe, creed, religion, or socioeconomic status.

President Boakai has urged the organization of fitting programs to honor this significant day, promoting the spirit of unity and integration throughout Liberia.
