Man Electrocuted In Attempt To Vandalise Transformer

In a heart-wrenching incident, a suspected vandal’s attempt to steal from a transformer substation in Damaturu, Yobe State, ended in a tragic loss of life. The individual, whose identity remains unknown, succumbed to electrocution while trying to tamper with an exposed live wire.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect attempted to shield himself with his shirt while handling the live cable, but it was a fatal mistake.

The moment electricity was restored, the suspect’s lifeless body was discovered by residents on their way to morning prayers.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing sadness and regret over the loss of life. “It’s a tragic reminder of the dangers of vandalism and the importance of respecting electrical infrastructure,” said a local resident.

Authorities have vowed to take action against vandalism, with the Yobe Police Command promising to prosecute those responsible for damaging power infrastructure.

“We will continue to support the YEDC in safeguarding their installations and bringing arrested vandals to justice,” said DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Police Public Relations Officer.

As the community comes to terms with this devastating incident, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety and respecting the dangers of electrical infrastructure.
