MANNA House Agric. Business School Trains Food Processors On Postharvest Management

To educate food processors on postharvest management of agricultural products in Nigeria MANNA House Agribusiness School organised a two-day capacity building workshop in Lagos.

The training which was the first in its series, came under the theme, “capacity building on postharvest management of agricultural products’’ and it attracted participants from across the state.

Speaking at the event, Director of MANNA House Agribusiness School who is also the convener of the training, Racheal Ariori said that the training focused on processing and packaging of leafy vegetables, production of tomatoes pure and ketchup, production of tomatoes paste and juice.

Others were production of pepper tomatoes mix, tips and guides on NAFDAC procedures and certification among others.

According to her, the two- day training would go a long way in educating food processors on how best to manage postharvest agricultural products so as to reduce product loss.

Speaking earlier, representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture

Sekinat Hassan commended the organisers of the training describing it as timely.

Hassan therefore urged participants at the training to ensure they put in practice all that they have taught them during the training.

One of the participants who spoke in an interview with African Future Leadership Magazine, Ndidiamaka Oluwaseyi stressed the need for the government to provide machines that will enable food processors to preserve agricultural produce in the country.

Similarly, another participants who also spoke at training, Frances Akpan lamented high cost of transportation in the country, adding “high cost of transportation is a major challenging facing farmers in the country as a result, farmers find it difficult to transport their produce to the places where they will bought.’’

High point of the event was an award ceremony organised by the organisers of the trainging.
