In a surprise move, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a prominent Fulani socio-cultural association, has announced that its members will not participate in the planned nationwide protests against hunger and hardship scheduled for August 1, 2024. Instead, the association prefers peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement with authorities.
At a press conference in Karu, Nasarawa State, the association’s national president, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello-Bodejo, and national secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, emphasized the importance of dialogue over mass protests.
Bello-Bodejo stated, “We believe in peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement with authorities, rather than mass protests that may lead to chaos and violence.”

The association also commended the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, seeing it as a positive step towards addressing the concerns of Fulani herders.
Meanwhile, other groups have expressed similar reservations about the planned protests. Alhaji Abdulkarim Dayyabu, a social critic and leader of the Movement for the Restoration of Justice, questioned the legitimacy of the anonymous groups calling for the protests.
He urged the public to be patient and supportive of the current leadership, suggesting that the government is already addressing the prevailing issues.
Additionally, 259 civil society organisations (CSOs) under the Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reforms (COTER) have voiced their opposition to the planned protests.
At a press conference, COTER’s National Coordinator, Adeshina Animashaun, warned that the protests could lead to chaos and violence similar to the October 2020 #EndSARS demonstrations.
Animashaun urged the protest organisers to reconsider, stating the potential risks to national stability and the safety of innocent Nigerians.
