NAFDAC Workers Embark On Indefinite Strike Over Welfare Issues

In a bold move to address long-standing grievances, the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies, affiliated with the Trade Union Congress, has initiated an indefinite strike on behalf of NAFDAC employees.

The strike, commencing today, October 7, follows unsuccessful negotiations with NAFDAC management regarding critical promotion and welfare concerns. According to Dr. Ejor Michael, TUC Secretary, “The management’s inaction has left us no choice but to take drastic measures.”

At the heart of the dispute are unresolved issues outlined in the SSASCGOC/NAFDAC/COMMUNIQUE/VOL.1, issued October 4, 2024. Key concerns include:
The review of the 2024 Promotion Examination Results, which has sparked controversy among employees.
The appointment of Directors for Public Affairs and Special Duties, a position that has remained vacant.

The reform of Promotion Examination Content, aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency.
Timely disclosure of APER/PER/KPI Scores, essential for employee performance evaluations.

Resolution of tied promotion examination scores, affecting career advancement.
Qualification and conversion criteria for promotion examinations.

Creation of a Psychology Officer Cadre, aligning with the Head of Service Circular.
Relocation of the Danida Fellowship and centralization of training.
Payment of pending burial expenses, life insurance, and repatriation allowances.
Salary arrears for employees dating back to 2022.

The union emphasizes that the strike will continue unabated until all demands are fully met. “This industrial action is unavoidable, and we urge all members to cooperate,” stated Dr. Michael.
SSASCGOC State and Zonal Coordinators have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to the strike directive. As the strike unfolds, NAFDAC operations are expected to grind to a halt, impacting critical services.

The union’s resolve to address these pressing issues reflects the growing frustration among NAFDAC employees. With no end in sight, the strike’s consequences will undoubtedly be far-reaching.
