NLC Summons Meeting Over Police Invitation Of President

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has summoned an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in response to the police invitation of its National President, Joe Ajaero, for alleged terrorism financing.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday at 8 am, will be attended by heads of affiliates and state chapters of NLC.

Ajaero was invited by the police on charges connected to criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, reasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

The NLC has rejected the police explanation for the recent raid on its national secretariat and demanded the release of arrested members and seized documents.

The organization has also criticized government interference in its internal affairs, including a proposed reduction in the tenure of trade union leaders.

The police invitation and raid on the NLC secretariat have sparked tensions between the government and the labor union, with the NLC accusing the government of attempting to silence its voice.
