Oba Adeyemo Of Ado Ekiti Designates Oct.18 For Afe Babalola Day

In a remarkable display of appreciation, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, has designated October 18 as Afe Babalola Day, a testament to the renowned legal luminary’s profound impact on the community and beyond.

According to Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Co-chairman of the Afe Babalola Day Celebration Planning Committee, “This gesture is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for Aare Afe Babalola’s tireless contributions to our community and state.” Ojudu emphasized that this honor would inspire others to emulate Babalola’s selfless service.

The community has extended an invitation to distinguished guests, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, and other prominent leaders, to join in celebrating Babalola’s remarkable achievements.

As Ojudu aptly put it, “We seek to establish a new standard of honoring our living heroes, encouraging others to make a positive impact in their communities.” Babalola’s numerous accomplishments include influencing the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, and Ekiti State University’s law program, as well as his pivotal role in creating Ekiti State.

The Ado Ekiti people are advocating for President Bola Tinubu to confer the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) upon Babalola, recognizing his immense contributions to national development.

On this special day, the community will come together to pay tribute to Babalola’s enduring legacy, showcasing their appreciation through music, dance, and intellectual discourse. As Ojudu poignantly remarked, “The honor given by one’s people is the most prestigious – it will extend his lifetime and bring joy to his heart.”
