PDP Leads 21 Local Government Councils In Adamawa

In a landslide victory, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all 21 local government council seats in Adamawa State, solidifying its dominance in the recently concluded elections.

The party also secured a near-sweep of the councillorship seats, winning all except one in the Demsa Ward of the Demsa Local Government Area, where the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) managed to secure a single seat.

According to the results announced by the State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Mohammed Umar, on Sunday, the PDP’s resounding success saw them claim all available council seats across the state’s 21 local governments.

Notably, 12 of the 19 registered political parties participated in the elections.

This electoral triumph marks a significant milestone for the PDP in Adamawa State, particularly in the wake of the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments.

This historic decision effectively freed local government chairmen from the governor’s control, paving the way for a more independent and robust democratic process at the grassroots level.

The Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, will likely be bolstered by this overwhelming victory, which reinforces the PDP’s strong foothold in the state.

As the dust settles on this electoral battle, attention will now turn to the implications of this resounding win for the political landscape of Adamawa State and beyond.
