President Tinubu Addresses Nation, Unveils Plans To Revitalise Economy

In a landmark broadcast to the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu unveiled a multifaceted plan to revitalize Nigeria’s economy, foster national unity, and usher in a new era of prosperity.

Key highlights of his vision include:

Economic Revitalization

  • Aggregate revenue doubled to N9.1 trillion in H1 2024, with improved non-oil sector productivity
  • Debt service ratio reduced to 68% from 97%, freeing up resources for development
  • Cleared $5 billion forex backlogs, enhancing economic stability
  • Increased spending on Nigerians, with states receiving record-high funds

Infrastructure Development

  • Ongoing projects: Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Highway, and others, to boost economic growth and connectivity
  • Reforms in the oil and gas industry, increasing production to 1.61 million barrels per day
  • Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (CNG) to reduce transportation costs by 60%, enhancing economic efficiency

Youth Empowerment

  • Student loan scheme: N45.6 billion processed for payment, supporting education and skills development
  • Consumer Credit Corporation: N200 billion to help Nigerians acquire essential products, stimulating economic growth
  • Skill-Up Artisans Programme, Nigerian Youth Academy, and National Youth Talent Export Programme, to equip youth with competitive skills

Housing and Food Production

  • Renewed Hope City and Estate: 100,000 housing units planned, addressing housing deficits and promoting economic growth
  • Tariffs removed on rice, wheat, maize, sorghum, drugs, and medical supplies, reducing costs and enhancing food security
