President Tinubu Vows Nigeria Will Achieve Food Self-Sufficiency During His Tenure

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to making Nigeria self-reliant in food production while in office. His commitment was highlighted during the groundbreaking of a major roadwork in Niger State, which he believes will contribute towards this goal.

Represented by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the ceremony for the N169.7bn Bida-Minna Road, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of partnerships between federal and state governments for development.

He assured continued support for initiatives promoting prosperity and economic development, identifying road infrastructure as a critical component. These enhancements are seen as pivotal for saving lives and bolstering economic activity.

He said, “For governments at all levels to grow, there must be cordial relationships. The Federal Government will support Niger to ensure that the desired prosperity is derived. Nigeria will be self-sufficient in food production during my administration.

“Road construction will save lives and create avenues for greater economic development.”

President Tinubu also acknowledged the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, for maintaining peace within the region and expressed a personal connection to the state’s development.

Tinubu said, “As a traditional title holder of Jagaba Borgu since about 20 years ago, I am also a son of Niger and I will be part of anything that will bring development to the people of the state.”

Governor Umaru Bago, meanwhile, affirmed the road project as a realization of commitments made under the New Niger Agenda. The undertaking not only represents fulfilling a pledge but a significant shift from the past, signifying deep-seated intentions to enhance infrastructural standards and overall socioeconomic growth in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Umaru Bago said the construction of the Bida-Minna Road was a promise fulfilled.

“As encapsulated in our pact with Nigerlites under the New Niger Agenda, this groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of the construction of the 84km standard dual-carriageway with streetlights, interchange, and underpass at both ends of the road, a promise fulfilled.

We are poised to change the negative narratives in line with our ambitious New Niger Agenda,” he submitted.

This development aligns with the Federal Government’s broader vision for Nigeria, aiming to transform its infrastructure landscape and achieve comprehensive food security, effectively changing the nation’s developmental trajectory.
