Protest In Kano Turns Violent As 1 Killed, NCC Office, Filling Station Set On Fire

A devastating wave of violence has engulfed Kano State, Nigeria, as a hunger protest spiralled out of control, claiming the life of one person, Ismael Ahmad Musa, and leaving another battling for survival at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The protest, which commenced on August 1, 2024, witnessed a large group of armed youths unleashing their fury on the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) office, a filling station, and a Rufaida shop in the Hotoro area, reducing them to smoldering ruins.

The NCC office, which was slated for inauguration next week, was completely gutted by the inferno, while all shops in the vicinity were forced to shut down due to the violence.

Residents are now calling on the authorities to take swift and decisive action to restore order and protect lives and property, as the situation continues to deteriorate.

As Isa Musa, a resident of Charanchi, poignantly observed, “The situation has descended into chaos, posing a dire threat to humanity, and immediate action is imperative to ensure safety and security.”

The protesters, driven by desperation and frustration, have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met, despite warnings from security agencies.

The police have been urged to deploy additional personnel to quell the unrest and restore order in the metropolis, as the city teeters on the brink of chaos.

The hunger protest, which was scheduled to last from August 1 to 10, has now taken a deadly turn, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in its wake.

The authorities face a daunting task in restoring peace and order, as the people of Kano struggle to come to terms with the devastating consequences of the violence.
