It was indeed a memorable day for the I968, 73 and 74 sets of Old student’s Association of Saint Jude’s Anglican Primary School, Ebute Meta Lagos as they held a thanksgiving service to mark 50 years of living the school.
The event which took place at Saint Jude’s Anglican Church Ebute Meta, Lagos last Christmas was a great reunion which gave some of the members opportunity to see one another after five decades and to deliberate on how to give back to their almamater.
Speaking at the event, one of the members, Mr. Deola Adelawa affirmed that the gathering aimed to appreciate God for keeping them alive.
Adelawa also lauded the members for considering it ideal for them to gather and celebrate in such capacity.
He was optimistic that the reunion idea which was conceived five years ago would bring transformation in the primary school.
Lamenting high level of indiscipline among the young ones in the society today, he said: “ in our own time, there was discipline, it was not like now where parents would want to quarrel with the teacher who disciplined their wards’’.

While admonishing teachers to discipline pupils with care, he advised parents not to be offended when their wards are being disciplined for wrong doing.
Also he frowned at parents and guardians who would want to push their children to higher class so that they will pass out of the school earlier than their mates.
According to him, such rush is not necessary as it may negatively affect the child in the future.
In his words: “ why the rush, if you look at those who brought education to us , they go to school, year one, year two and so on, they believed that a child should be in a class at a particular age’’.

Who spoke during the event, Mrs. Omolara lauded the members for being present at the thanksgiving, describing the event as a fun filled celebration that brought joy and fulfillment in the lives of the members who were drawn from across Lagos State.
