Spelman College, Lagos Universities Unite To Empower Women’s Education, STEM Research

In a groundbreaking move, Spelman College, a leading institution in women’s education, has signed a historic agreement with three prominent Lagos-based universities – University of Lagos, Lagos State University, and Pan-Atlantic University.

This partnership aims to foster collaboration in teaching, research, and student and faculty exchanges, with a focus on women’s education, STEM fields, and creative industries.

The agreement, signed during the 50-year anniversary of the Lagos-Atlanta Sister Cities partnership, marks a significant milestone in deepening U.S.-Nigeria educational ties.

Dr. Helene Gayle, President of Spelman College, emphasized the importance of partnerships in higher education, highlighting the need for collaboration to address shared global challenges.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, described the partnership as a “historic event” that marks the beginning of a new era of educational collaboration between the United States and Nigeria.

U.S. Consul General Will Stevens welcomed the partnership, reaffirming the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote access to quality higher education and strengthen human capital for inclusive economic growth and development in Nigeria.

This partnership is expected to have a profound impact on women’s education and STEM research in Nigeria, providing opportunities for students and faculty to engage in meaningful exchanges and collaborative research.

The agreement is a testament to the power of collaboration and mutual support in advancing educational excellence and empowering future generations of leaders.
