In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Tahir Munguno has been appointed as the new Senate Chief Whip, replacing Senator Ali Ndume.
The decision was made after a letter of protest from the APC National Headquarters was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, criticizing Ndume’s “unguarded utterances” and “unbecoming statements”.
Ndume had been vocal in his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, slamming the government’s handling of the economic hardship, food scarcity, and security crisis.

However, his outspokenness came at a cost, as he was not only stripped of his position as Chief Whip but also removed as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. He has been reassigned to Chair the Senate Committee on Tourism.
The Senate’s unanimous vote to replace Ndume with Munguno marks a significant shift in the upper chamber’s leadership.
Munguno’s appointment is seen as a move to maintain stability and cohesion within the Senate, as well as to address the concerns raised by the APC National Headquarters.
As the new Chief Whip, Munguno is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the Senate’s agenda and ensuring the smooth passage of legislation.
