Voters hold INEC staff hostage in Festac

At the end of voting during the governorship and state legislature elections at polling unit 023 FHA Festac, Lagos on Saturday evening, voters insisted that INEC officials would not leave until the results of the polling unit were uploaded on the INEC server.

The crowd even refused to allow the officials to upload the results offline, because, according to them the one they allowed the officers post offline during the presidential election was doctored when it was announced.

At the polling unit, under the governorship, LP scored 74 votes APC 13 and PDP 4.

The officials called police and customs officers who could not quell the anger of the voters.

As at 5.30pm the officials were still trying to upload while a lot of interventions were being made to allow them upload offline.

In Enugu State, an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday escaped mob action over vote buying at Obibi Mgbuji ward 3, Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo local government area.

Trouble started at the polling unit when a PDP woman, Mrs Juliet Nnaji started inducing voters with N1000 cash to vote for the party.

She was also misleading the electorate to vote for ZLP instead of LP if they insisted on voting for Labour Party, saying that LP has been changed with ZLP.

It was learnt that the police officer attached to the polling unit noticed what was going on as the woman and some voters started having issues on who to vote for. The officer said that the woman urged them to vote for PDP or ZLP not LP.

An Army officer who was around rescued the woman from being lynched.
