W.TEC’s 17th She Creates Camp, Empowering Next Generation Of Female Innovators

In a remarkable display of dedication to gender equality and technological advancement, the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) successfully hosted its 17th annual She Creates Camp in Lagos, Nigeria.

This two-week residential program, held from August 4th to 17th, brought together 19 enthusiastic girls from across Lagos State, providing a unique opportunity for them to explore the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

The She Creates Camp is designed to bridge the gap between girls and technology, fostering a community of young innovators equipped to tackle real-world challenges. By offering hands-on training in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence, electronics, and software innovation, W.TEC empowers girls to become creators, rather than mere consumers, of technology.

Throughout the camp, participants engaged in interactive sessions, workshops, and team-building exercises, guided by experienced facilitators and industry experts. Career-talk sessions with leading women in ICT and business provided valuable insights, inspiring the girls to pursue careers in STEAM fields.

Excursions to Wecyclers Collection and Recycling Centre and Sonnex Packaging Nigeria Ltd. offered a glimpse into the practical applications of technology in environmental sustainability and manufacturing.
W.TEC’s commitment to empowering girls extends beyond the camp itself.

By partnering with organizations such as Laureates College, MainOne, QVT Media, Leadway Assurance, and LTT Coastal & Marine Services, W.TEC ensures that its impact is amplified, reaching a wider audience and creating a ripple effect of positive change.
The camp’s success is attributed to the tireless efforts of its organizers, facilitators, and supporters.

Distinguished speakers, including Captain Ebinepre Robinson Canus, Engr. Mariam Chuks, Moses Oghene, Mrs. Temitope Ogundipe, and Shedrack Bright, shared their expertise, inspiring the girls to explore new horizons.

As W.TEC continues to push boundaries, its long-term goal remains clear: to increase the number of Nigerian women and girls working in STEAM-related fields, leveraging technology for learning, professional, and leadership activities. By empowering the next generation of female innovators, W.TEC is shaping a brighter future for Nigeria, one girl at a time.
