Residents In Edo Trek To Polling Units As Security Operatives Enforce No-Movement Order

In Benin, Edo State, residents are braving the streets on foot today as a combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army personnel enforce the no-movement order decreed by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the governorship election.

The streets, typically bustling with activity, are now lined with security personnel patrolling major roads, including Ekhewan Road, Ringroad axis, Sakponba Road, and Ihama Road. Vehicles are being scrutinized, with some turned back, while journalists’ credentials are carefully verified.

For residents like Adesuwa, the strict security measures are a necessary evil. “It’s good that security is tight,” she observes. “We don’t want any troublemakers disrupting the election.” Adesuwa’s sentiment echoes the concerns of many, who hope for a peaceful and fair electoral process.

The Edo State governorship election is a pivotal moment in the state’s history, and security forces are leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success. With the no-movement order in place, residents are adapting, trekking to their polling units to exercise their civic duty.

As the day unfolds, the city remains tense yet determined. The presence of security personnel serves as a reassuring reminder of the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
