ALGON Appoints Bello Lawal As President

In a significant development, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has elected Bello Lawal, Chairman of Kaita Local Government Area in Katsina State, as its new president. This transition marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for the organization.

Lawal’s appointment follows the conclusion of Aminu Mua’zu Maifata’s tenure as Executive Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State. During the National Executive Council meeting in Lafia, Lawal emerged as the consensus candidate, garnering widespread support from ALGON members.

In his inaugural address, Lawal expressed profound gratitude to the NEC members, saying, “I am deeply humbled by this trust and promise to dedicate myself to advancing the objectives of our great organization.” He reaffirmed ALGON’s commitment to advocating for local government autonomy, emphasizing the need for collective effort to achieve this goal.

Lawal urged unity among members, stressing, “Let us work together to strengthen governance at the local level, ensuring that our communities receive the benefits of effective leadership.” He pledged to build upon the accomplishments of his predecessor, Maifata, who congratulated Lawal and encouraged ALGON members to extend their full support to the new leadership.

Maifata expressed confidence in Lawal’s ability to steer ALGON toward greater heights, stating, “I have no doubt that Bello Lawal will lead our organization to achieve remarkable feats. I urge all members to give him the same cooperation you gave me during my tenure.”

As ALGON embarks on this new journey, Lawal’s leadership is expected to bring renewed momentum to the organization’s quest for local government autonomy.
