Safety: National HSSE Summit 2022 Set To Hold in Lagos

Preparations for 2022 annual National Safety Conference – Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Summit organized by the Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR) have reached advanced stage in Nigeria’s centre of excellence city of Lagos.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, the president of Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), John Thompson, organizers of the most authoritative National Safety Communication Conference, stated “the National HSSE Summit is the third edition in the fifth Annual General Meeting of Media Centre for Safety Reporting will hold on Saturday December 3, 2022 at the prestigious Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Centre located in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos”.

MCSR is a media nonprofit, non governmental organization made of Certified Safety Reporters, Communicators and other professional safety advocates.

This year’s Summit theme is: “Effective Safety Data Management: Harnessing the value chain for Economic Development and National Cohesion”.

Thompson, further stated that “the Summit will among other issues, explore ways of:
Ensuring HSE compliance for enhancement of industrial productivity and national development.
Leveraging the benefits of effective data management in safety Communication.
Evolving international practicable safety policy frameworks for auditing, investigating and reporting of incidents in private sectors of Nigeria’s economy.”

He disclosed that the Safety Centre was originally “established to be gathering, managing and releasing periodic general safety data, forensic audits and verifiable HSSE reports towards enhancing safety regulatory compliance and other framework updates for the overall socio-economic development of Nigeria.”

He maintained that the 2022 Summit theme was careful adopted by the board of directors and conference committee, to deliberate deepen and sensitize relevant stakeholders and the general public to engage the National Safety Database Centre portal launched at the 2021 Conference.

The Certified Safety Reporter revealed that “the essence of the Safety Database Portal launched last year is to aggregate, verify and communicate reliable periodic reports on various segments of the economy. It is a multifaceted collaborative work, which will grant critical stakeholders in general health, safety, security and environment, access to the portal for verification of reports before releasing data to the public.

Thompson, who is a member of the chartered body of Safety Professionals in Nigeria-ISPON, also said that, Media Centre for Safety Reporting(MCSR), will soon release a “Safety Reporting App” which will empower the the general public from any location, to interact, identify and report any hazard, incident/accident, as well as unsafe acts to Database Portal.”

He also said that “the Summit is aimed at activating the unique interactions and cooperation of all the segments of safety, security and Data Management stakeholders towards mitigating conflict of interest in Data mining, collection, management and sharing for health and sustainable development. It will also foster better understanding and mutual benefits to all stakeholders in general safety procedure for a healthier economic and environmental wellbeing.”

The Summit will feature National Safety Awards and Corporate Safety Certification for individuals and organizations that are considered HSSE Champions of the year.
