Lagos Govt. Partners NGO To Provide Sanitary Pads To School Girls.

In an effort to address menstrual health and hygiene management, the Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Vcare Development Foundation, has announced an initiative to provide 20,000 sanitary pads to female students in various secondary schools throughout the state.

This initiative was highlighted by Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, during a briefing in honor of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024. Dr. Ogunyemi stressed the importance of menstrual hygiene for the health and welfare of women and adolescent girls, calling for its recognition as a fundamental human right globally.

Leveraging the Significance of May 28 for Awareness

The choice of May 28, representing the typical 28-day menstrual cycle, aligns with the fifth month’s symbolism of a standard five-day period to raise awareness on this critical issue.

A Week of Awareness and Education in Lagos

The Lagos state government, together with the Vcare Foundation, has organized a week of activities from May 29 to June 5 in observance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day. With the goal of engaging approximately 500,000 female students, the campaign will include the distribution of sanitary pads to schoolgirls, reinforcing the commitment to menstrual health education and accessibility.
