NLC Suspends Strike Amidst Dialogue With SGF

The nationwide strike orchestrated by Organised Labour in Nigeria has taken a temporary break for five days, making way for ongoing discussions with the tripartite committee focused on establishing a new national minimum wage. News Central has reported a suspension of the strike earlier today as a result of a scheduled 10 am meeting with the FG Tripartite Committee.

This pause in industrial action comes on the heels of what has been described as a fruitful dialogue with Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, among other government representatives on Monday.

It was agreed upon that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is inclined toward setting a new minimum wage that would surpass the initially proposed amount of N60,000.

The Tripartite Committee, comprising government officials, labour leaders, and employer representatives, is set to convene daily for the next week to finalize an acceptable National Minimum Wage.

With the negotiations progressing and the strike suspended, Nigeria anticipates a prompt resolution to wage disputes that have significantly impacted the country’s socio-economic landscape.
