Yobe Govt. Moves To Tackle Unemployment Among Youths, Food Insecurity

In a bid to reinforce food security and tackle unemployment among the youth, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has confirmed the government’s pledge to support the young farming community for the upcoming 2024 cropping season.

The commitment was voiced during an audience with the newly appointed Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Ibn Grema, at the Government House in Damaturu. Governor Buni detailed the intentions to equip 20 young farmers from each of the state’s 178 political wards with essential agricultural requisites, totaling 3,560 beneficiaries.

Governor Buni laid emphasis on the significance of nurturing youth employment and accomplishing self-sufficiency in food production. “This scheme aims to generate job opportunities for our youth and to amplify food self-reliance and food security in the state,” he articulated.

He further advocated for the inculcation of robust moral values within the youth, a charge directed at traditional and religious leaders, alongside parents, to combat the waning discipline and escalating drug misuse among the younger generation.

Furthermore, Governor Buni offered counsel to the new emir on anchoring justice and equality to foster tranquility, unity, and socioeconomic growth within his domain.

As reported by News Central, Governor Buni, in the prior month of May 2024, announced imminent substantial agricultural initiatives poised to enhance food security within the state and countrywide.

This announcement was made in Damaturu during the inauguration of the federal government’s Strategic Grains Reserve Palliative program. Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the governor’s Director-General of Press Affairs and Media, stated that the program is designed to spur a more robust involvement in agriculture, assuring a sustainable means of living.

Governor Buni underscored his dedication to positioning Yobe State’s agriculture sector as a lucrative, productive industry, contributing to both food abundance and economic vitality.
