Prof. Maikudi Becomes Acting Vice Chancellor Of Uni Abuja

The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has named Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the acting Vice-Chancellor following a recent Senate meeting held on campus in Abuja on Wednesday.

Prof. Maikudi, aged 41, previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics. Her appointment, disclosed by outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, is interim and awaits confirmation by the Governing Council.

In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed gratitude to the Senate for their support and confidence in her leadership.

Professor Maikudi commenced her career at UniAbuja as a Lecturer II in 2008 and was later promoted to the position of Professor in 2022.

She has held various leadership positions, including serving as the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and as the founding director of the UniAbuja International Centre in 2019.

Professor Maikudi’s academic journey encompasses extensive research in United Nations Law and active participation in conferences globally, spanning countries such as the US, UK, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt.

She is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

Born on January 31, 1983, Professor Maikudi holds the distinction of being the youngest female Professor of Law in Northwestern Nigeria and at UniAbuja.

She completed her secondary education at Queens College in Lagos and pursued her higher education at the University of Reading, where she obtained an LLB in 2004 and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.

In 2015, she earned her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in International Law from UniAbuja.
