Accra, Ghana To Host Debut Green Film Festival (GFF)

ACCRA, Ghana, is gearing up to welcome the inaugural Green Film Festival (GFF) from October 11th to 12th, 2024, spanning various venues across the city. This two-day event is poised to merge the emotive influence of storytelling with pressing environmental themes, fostering a profound connection between attendees and the natural world.

A new chapter in environmental consciousness through cinema:

The Green Film Festival transcends the traditional film festival concept; it embodies a movement crafted to ignite sustainable lifestyles and ecological accountability among individuals and organizations. By presenting a thoughtfully curated array of impactful short films delving into the realms of climate change and environmental preservation, GFF aims to enlighten and challenge its audience, urging them to reassess their environmental footprint. The festival’s films, workshops, and immersive encounters will delve into five pivotal themes crucial for the planet’s future: Biodiversity, Activism, Food, Climate Displacement, and Wildlife Conservation.

Festival highlights:

  • Daily screenings: Attendees can anticipate daily showcases of 15 to 30-minute films, each selected for its capacity to provoke contemplation and inspire climate action.
  • Interactive workshops: Post-screening dialogues and workshops will guide participants from awareness to tangible action, empowering them to integrate sustainable practices into their daily routines.
  • Eco-Centric celebration: The festival will culminate in a grand eco-themed park event, celebrating sustainability through art, sculpture, music, and a grand film screening.

“The Green Film Festival stands as a pivotal initiative to mobilize our community around the urgent issues of climate change and environmental sustainability. Through the medium of film, we can drive awareness and action, motivating individuals and organizations to embrace sustainable practices. This festival epitomizes the role of creative media in shaping a more resilient and eco-conscious future.” – Isaac Aboah, Festival Co-director.

“Our world confronts unparalleled environmental challenges, from climate change to biodiversity depletion. The Green Film Festival serves as a potent platform to amplify these critical messages through the art of storytelling. By harnessing film’s persuasive prowess, we aspire to instigate action and challenge local and international entities to lead by example and champion environmental stewardship.” – Joshua Amponsem, Festival Co-director.

Who should attend?

The Green Film Festival extends a warm invitation to filmmakers, environmental enthusiasts, and the general public. Whether you are a storyteller seeking to make an impact, an advocate for sustainability, or merely intrigued by ecological matters, GFF provides a distinctive platform to engage with like-minded individuals and become part of a global movement towards a sustainable future.
