In a startling incident on Sunday evening, a Max Air plane experienced a dramatic tyre burst during takeoff from Yola Airport in Adamawa, leaving the aircraft “completely disabled”.
The Boeing 737, with registration 5N-ADB, was en route to Abuja with 119 passengers and six crew members on board.
According to Bimbo Oladeji, Max Air’s Director of Public and Consumer Protection, “This evening, Max Air’s flight NGL1649…was cleared for takeoff from Yola Airport…when a loud bang was heard, identified as the bursting of the rear gear tyres.”
Initially, two tyres burst, and while attempting to taxi off the runway, the remaining two tyres also burst, rendering the aircraft immobile.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and an investigation is underway.
This incident marks the second in just over a year for Max Air, following a crash landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja last year, which had also departed from Adamawa airport.
As the investigation unfolds, the airline and authorities will be looking into the causes of this incident to ensure passenger safety.
