Nigeria Police Refute Curfew Declaration Ahead Of August Protest

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted reports that Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, declared a curfew or fixed 4 pm as a closing time for protesters in the planned August 1 nationwide hunger protest.

Police spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the information as mischievous and false.

Adejobi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order during protests, warning against violent demonstrations.

He recalled the aftermath of the 2020 EndSARS protest, where police stations and public facilities were attacked and looted.

The police urged citizens to exercise their right to peaceful protests, while also learning from previous violent protests.

The IGP has ordered senior police officers to protect protesters during the planned hunger protest.

The police denial comes amid preparations for the nationwide protest, with the government and security agencies taking measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
