Ugandan President Accuses Western Countries of Double Standard on Climate Change

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has condemned the West of not following the principles of their commitment to stop climate change.

In a post by Yoweri Museveni, he said, “a vast wind farm is being demolished to make way for a new open pit coal mine which is reprehensible double standard, we in Africa have come to expect.”
Yoweri said it makes a mockery of western commitments to climate change targets as they have not been forthcoming on their promises, this far.

The Uganda leader explained that, it is violation of value for Europeans to expect to take Africa’s fossil fuels for their own energy production but refuse fossil fuel development which are of benefit to Africans.

He said that, “if Africa was to increase electricity production, just by using her known reserve of natural gas, the continent’s share of global emissions would rise from 3 percent to just 3.5 percent.” Instead, he emphasises, Western Money had poured into wind and solar projects to receive applause from the virtous in the corridors of Congress and Chancelleries of Europe leaving Africans without electricity when the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine.”

As he put it, “Uganda is due to start exporting oil within three years. He said if Europe still will not help, then we will get there through out own endeavors and with support of the willing.
He noted that Europe’s failure to meet its climate goals should not be Africa’s problem.

However, due to the global energy crisis, some European countries have recently increased coal production which is seriously criticised by the activists of climate change.
