President Tinubu Launches CNG-Powered Buses In Abuja, Promotes Natural Gas Utilization

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled 30 hybrid-powered Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in Abuja, donated by the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN).

The buses, designed and manufactured by Innoson Motors, can transport up to 100 people and run on diesel if needed.

Tinubu emphasized the need for Nigeria to utilize its vast natural gas resources in the transportation sector, citing international precedents like India, which mandated CNG for commercial vehicles in 2004.

He noted that commercial vehicles account for 80% of Nigeria’s petrol demand, costing trillions of naira monthly.

The President praised the private sector’s commitment to the CNG initiative and commended Innoson Motors and DAPPMAN members for their role in “changing the narratives in Nigeria.”

He assured that this shift would lead to better conditions and increased prosperity for Nigerians.

The launch marks a significant step towards promoting natural gas utilization in Nigeria’s transportation sector, with the potential to enhance energy competitiveness and bring transformative changes.
