The family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the visionary designer of the Nigerian national flag, has announced an elaborate three-day burial ceremony to honor his legacy.
The festivities will commence on September 4, 2024, and conclude on September 6, 2024, in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
In a heartfelt statement, Akinwumi Akinkunmi, Pa Taiwo’s son, expressed his family’s gratitude to the Federal Government for its condolence visit, led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed.

The family has requested that the national flag be flown at half-mast during the burial, symbolizing the nation’s respect for his legacy.
The Oyo State government has also shown support, with members of the 7th Oyo State House of Assembly and the Chairman, Oyo State Advisory Council, Bolaji Ayorinde, playing key roles in the burial preparations.
