NMA Urges IGP To Intervene In Abduction Of 20 Medical Students, Demands Swift Rescue

In a distressing and alarming incident, 20 medical students were kidnapped while traveling to a conference in Enugu, prompting the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to urgently call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and ensure their safe return.

The students, comprising 12 from the University of Jos and 8 from the University of Maiduguri, were abducted between Otukpo and Enugu in Benue State, sparking widespread concern and anxiety among their families, colleagues, and the medical community.

According to the NMA Secretary-General, Dr. Benjamin Egbo, the students were en route to a conference organized by the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) when they were taken.

One of the abducted students managed to share their location via Google Maps, indicating they are being held in the Oglewu Ehaje area.

In response to the NMA’s plea, the IGP has ordered the deployment of tactical operatives and assets to ensure the prompt rescue of the kidnapped medical students.

The police are working tirelessly to track down the abductors and ensure the safe return of the students.

The abduction of these medical students has sent shockwaves through the nation, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect the lives and well-being of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups like students.

The NMA’s urgent call for intervention and the IGP’s prompt response underscore the gravity of the situation and the commitment to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
