Aliko Dangote Tops Africa’s Billionaire List According to Forbes’ 2024 Ranking

Aliko Dangote continues his reign as Africa’s wealthiest individual according to Forbes’ 38th Annual World’s Billionaires List for 2024, boasting a net worth of $13.4 billion. This year’s global wealth ranking for African billionaires reflects a dynamic shift in fortunes.

Dangote’s wealth, primarily amassed through his 86% stake in Dangote Cement, has seen significant growth as the company reached a N10 trillion market cap. Forbes’ extensive list includes a record 2,781 billionaires globally.

Johann Rupert & Family, previously listed as the richest in Africa at the beginning of 2024 with $10.3 billion, now trails behind Dangote with $12.2 billion.

Other African billionaires on the list include:

Nicky Oppenheimer & Family: $9.5 billion, positioned at 249th globally, deriving wealth from South Africa’s diamond industry.

Nassef Sawiris: $8.8 billion, ranking 287th with his fortune coming from various industries in Egypt.

Nathan Kirsh: $7.2 billion, holding the spot at 373rd, with his wealth originating from Eswatini.

Mike Adenuga: $6.7 billion, at 409th place, accumulated through telecommunications and oil in Nigeria.

Abdulsamad Rabiu: $5.2 billion, achieving the 581st rank, with interests in cement and sugar.

Naguib Sawiris: $3.8 billion, ranking 835th, with diversified investments in Egypt.

Mohamed Mansour: $3.3 billion, at 991st place, with a diversified portfolio in Egypt.

Koos Bekker: $2.6 billion, sitting at 1256th, rising to the top from outside the initial top 10 at the year’s start.

These rankings represent the moving economic pictures within Africa, as business endeavors, market valuations, and investments continuously redefine the wealth chart of the continent’s billionaires.
